Blue Light Enhances Cadmium Tolerance of the Aquatic Macrophyte Potamogeton crispus

چکیده

Cadmium (Cd) is highly toxic and widely distributed in aquatic systems due to its high solubility mobility water, which can severely inhibit the survival of macrophytes. The phytotoxicity Cd depends on environmental factors; however, it remains unclear whether how light quality affects toxicity In this study, we investigated effects macrophytes Potamogeton crispus under different qualities (white, blue, red light). We evaluated morphological photo-physiological traits, as well cellular antioxidant defense system. Our findings indicate that P. stress showed notable damage leaf morphology, decreased photosynthetic efficiency, inhibited HCO3− uptake, reduced enzyme activities, oxidative indicated by MDA accumulation superoxide (O2−) overproduction. However, compared with white or stress, blue structural caused while increasing pigment synthesis ascorbate peroxidase (APX) activity. conclusion, changes induced crispus’s photosynthesis system strengthen tolerance Cd. Further research signal transmission relation Cd-exposed plants still needed.

Differences in the regeneration traits of Potamogeton crispus turions from macrophyte- and phytoplankton-dominated lakes.

Potamogeton crispus is widely used in submerged macrophyte restoration in China. Turions are an important means of reproduction in this species. To compare the regeneration abilities of P. crispus turions in macrophyte- and phytoplankton-dominated lakes, we collected P. crispus turions from a macrophyte-dominated lake (Liangzi Lake) and a phytoplankton-dominated lake (Taihu Lake). Both lakes ar...

Turion morphological responses to water nutrient concentrations and plant density in the submerged macrophyte Potamogeton crispus

Asexual propagules are the dominant means of propagation in most submerged macrophytes. To improve the understanding of how water nutrient concentrations and population density influence the turion production of Potamogeton crispus L., the turions were planted in mesocosms with three water nutrient conditions (ambient lake water, high P and high N) and two plant density levels (4 and 15 turions...

Modelling the clonal growth of the rhizomatous macrophyte Potamogeton perfoliatus

Macrophytes play a crucial role in the functioning of lake ecosystems. Until now most macrophyte models neglected the fact that the majority of macrophyte species expand clonally during the growing season. Inclusion of a detailed description of clonal growth in models can facilitate our understanding of space occupation and patch expansion and predict future macrophyte development. “CLOMO” is a...

Molecular Adaptation of rbcL in the Heterophyllous Aquatic Plant Potamogeton

BACKGROUND Heterophyllous aquatic plants show marked phenotypic plasticity. They adapt to environmental changes by producing different leaf types: submerged, floating and terrestrial leaves. By contrast, homophyllous plants produce only submerged leaves and grow entirely underwater. Heterophylly and submerged homophylly evolved under selective pressure modifying the species-specific optima for ...
